THE SCIENTIFIC COUNCIL MISSION STATEMENT The Scientific Council, "Neurogel en Marche" Association provides scientific and humanitarian support; advises, recommends, disseminates scientific information, identifies and proposes medical institutes, laboratories and areas of research focused upon the treatment of lesions in the Central Nervous System (CNS) which cause paralysis (paraplegia, quadriplegia) and lesions of the brain (hemiplegia). Research will specifically target the use of Neurogel, a biomaterial classified as a hydrogel and composed of long polymer chain. MEMBERS OF THE SCIENTIFIC COUNCIL Professor ALFREDO GORIO: Professor ALFREDO GORIO: Director of clinical pharmacology IRCCS Humanitas and the Department of Surgery at the School of Medecine of the University of Milan. He is currently the scientific chief/head of the national Italian program on lesions of the spinal cord. His work on EPO and its role in neurogenesis has been helpful to the study soon to be led by Doctor Patrick Decherchi in the University Aix/Marseille, France Collaboration with the Association: The Association is currently discussing the possibility of his injecting specific doses of EPO in the sub-araichnoid space. He has received the lots of Neurogel to be combined with EPO, progesterone, and aminniotic mesenchymal stem cells.
| | Professor ZU LIN CHEN: Researcher and Professor at the Laboratory of Neurobiology and Genetics, the Rockefeller University, New York, New York Collaboration with the Association: proposes to study the results of injecting a dose of 1/10 EPO and 1/5 progesterone into the ventricular zone of the brain. He has received the lots of Neurogel.
| | Professor ZHENG GANG ZHANG: Researcher and Professor, Department of Neurology, Henry Ford Health Science Center, Detroit, Michigan Professor Zheng Gang Zhang has published numerous publications related to EPO and its action via VEGF and BDNF. His team has largely contributed to laying the groundwork for starting the study of Neurogel. Collaboration with the Association: He is providing us with a lot of advice, but his team does not have the financial funding to conduct a study on neurogel. Unfortunately, the association is also unable to help at the current time.
| | Professor MICHAEL SCHUMACHER: Director of Research at INSERM UMR 788 and at the University Paris-SUD 11 at Kremlin-Bicetre. Known worldwide for his work on neuroprotection and neurogeneration. The information regarding progesterone in our Neurogel studies comes primarily from his publications and the work of his team Collaboration with the Association: Professor Schumacher and Doctor Guennoun are going examine our project. Wehave asked them for advice regarding the injection of progesterone. They proposed we meet them in their lab and we have offered to provide them with the gel.
| | Doctor RACHIDA GUENNOUN: UMR 788 INSERM and Universite Paris 11, 80, rue du General Leclerc, 94276 Bicetre cedex, Fance As a neuroendocrinologist, she has studied how progesterone achieves neuroprotection and the potential for prospective new treatments of SCI and brain trauma.
| | Professor MEHARVAN SINGH: Professor at the Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience at the University of North Texas (USA) Collaboration with the Association: a specialist in progesterone, he has provided advice regarding the dose of this hormone to be injected in a model of traumatic lesion. He has recommended the use of male rats, as they are unaffected by the feminine cycles of estrogens.

Doctor STEPHANE OLIET: Director of Research at the CNRS, Director of the team «Integrated Physiology of Neuroendoctrinal systems » Research Center INSERM U862 Bordeaux The current work of his team is geared toward determining the influence of the astrocytarian environment of neurons on the synaptic and extra-synaptic transmission as well as the intrinsic proprieties of nervous and glial cells. This corresponds to the hypothesis of regeneration under the control of astrocytes.
Collaboration with the Association: we anticipate obtaining his advice before beginning the study.
| | Doctor TANGUY MARQUESTRE: In charge of the Laboratory of Physiological Determinants of Physical Activity (UPRES 2385) School of Sports Sciences at the University de Mediterranee (Aix-Marseille II) He works on electrotherapy, electro-stimulation. He works with Doctor Decherchi.. Collaboration with the Association: We desire his input on physiotherapy related to our study.
| | Professor ETIENNE-EMILE BAULIEU : INSERM UMR 788 Boulevard. Gregory PINCUS - Secteur Marron 80, rue du Général Leclerc 94276 Le Kremlin-Bicetre Cedex. Honorary professor at the College de France, and in charge of the laboratory « Hormone and Genetics » of INSERM. He works on hormones and reproduction, glial cells and the neurobiology of hormones. He is the inventor of the abortion pill RU 486 et from the DHEA.
| | Doctor Riyi Shi: Associate Professor, Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Center for Paralysis Research, Purdue University,West Lafayette, IN.
Collaboration with the Association: specializing in the CNS and in glycol polyethelene, he has agreed to test NEUROGEL.
| | Professor EVA SYKOVA: director of the Institute of Experimental Medecine of the Academy of Science of the Czech Republic. She is a specialist on hydrogels with a synthetic polymer bases. Collaboration with the Association: The Association is currently discussing a comparative study of Neurogel with the hydrogel produced by her institute. She has also received lots of Neurogel which she will be combining with EPO, progesterone, and mesenchymal stem cells. | | |
